Get Ready, Get Set… FIRST SUNDAY RIDE IS APRIL 5 April 5—Opening day of cycling season, beginning of daylight saving time! Meet at the Cass Park pavilion just past the new Route 89 bridge. There will be membership forms and folks to answer questions for anyone interested in joining the club or trying the rides. The ride will begin shortly after 10:00 am. The main route is 20 miles to the Taughannock Falls overlook and back. Shorter and longer options will be indicated for those who want them. April 12—Meet at the Marine Midland Bank (Judd Falls Rd., on East Hill) at 10:00 am. Ride will be a loop to the east, returning through Caroline Center and Brooktondale, featuring a downhill of better than five miles. Ride is 29 miles, with long and short options available. April 19—Meet at the Marine Midland Bank (Judd Falls Rd., on East Hill) at 10:00 am. Ride will be a loop through Freeville and back through Lansing. Main route is 31 miles; longer and shorter options available, of course! April 26—Meet at The Store in Trumansburg, 10:00 am. (Be sure to park in the municipal lot across from the store.) Ride will be west toward Hector and the National Forest, 32 miles. May 3—This is the day of the FLCC’s annual race, the Hollenbeck Spring Classic. Members are invited to watch the race or volunteer to support the race activities. We’ll begin our ride after the race, and follow the 22-mile course. With the racers safely out of the way, we’ll be able to enjoy the lovely route at a leisurely pace. Meet at Hollenbeck’s Cider Mill, in Virgil. Ride starts at approximately 12:30 pm (depending on when the race course clears). May 10—Meet at the Tompkins County Professional Building at 10:00 am. (That’s on Cliff Street, which is also Route 89, just north of the hospital entrance.) The ride will be through Mecklenburg to Cayuta Lake, 43 miles. Many shorter (and longer!) options are available.
