Follow Up: NYS TT To the many people who turned out on the day of the TTs, and to the others who helped in the days and weeks prior to the event: Many thanks! The bike races came off almost without any problems, and the response from the riders was uniformly positive. We covered all the important things from race setup to the start–finish, and all the corners in between. It takes a lot of people with skill and initiative to make something as big as the State Championships happen, and happen so well. I can’t possibly list all the names of the volunteers, but a few stand out for the fact that they came forward and sought ways to help, and took special initiatives that made my life less stressful. Jody Greene and Mike Fitch took mountains of flyers and folded and addressed them and mailed them out. TJ Turner and Sherrie Black got the word out to the course residents by handing out tons of flyers. TJ also did significant course preparation work and was there when I needed other help. Dave Ruppert, too, was invaluable as he called people and arranged for volunteers to cover the corners and other important roles on race day. Laura Robert and my wife, Marcia, handled registration with calmness and skill, making the day go smoothly for the racers. Tob DeBoer, our chief referee, gave us excellent, quick results. Our starters, in-cluding Steve Edgar, Jim Bondra, and Laurie Tavares, got everyone off on time, and our finish line crew and scorers, including Matt Clark, Mark Sorrells, and Dan Fravil did such a good job that results were posted for many riders before they got off their bikes! I don’t even know all the people who turned out on race day to marshal corners. You did a great job, and I thank you very much. Whether they know it or not, the riders thank you too ! — Glenn Swan, 277-0495 FLCC VP, Mountain Biking |
