Other Fall Events — Hill Climb on October 24 — After an informal poll at Tuesday night’s ride, and some positive responses from members of the club over the ’net, I am pleased to find some interest in participation and promotion of the club’s last two fall events — the Cascadilla Hillclimb, and the Ithaca Cyclocross. The hill climb will be October 24 (for details, call Don Ander-sen at 758-3481 or 272-1212, ext. 204; «don@wilcoxpress.com»), and the cyclo-cross will be the weekend before that, on October 17, at my place on Mount Pleasant. We had fun with the cyclocross last year; let’s see if we can make it fun again this year. On a related note, we ran the Pink Slipper race on Tuesday, September 15, to end the season of Tuesday evening races. Now we are running cyclocross races, clinics, and training sessions on Tuesday nights, on a course on my property on Mt. Pleasant. That will allow us to be off the road and out of traffic as the days get shorter and we ride into partial darkness. We may try to move the time up to 5:00 or 5:30 to get more daylight. For these events it is feasible to use a regular road bike or a mountain bike, and to have a lot of fun doing so. C’mon out and try it! After a hiatus last year, I would like to bring back the annual Mountain Bike Madness weekend. It has always been Halloween weekend, and has included two "races," including the Quarry Criterium in the Brooktondale gravel pits, and a cross-country mountain-bike race at some other venue. It has never been a sanctioned event with big entry fees or prize money. Instead, it’s been for fun, and the entry fees always went toward food for everybody. Are there club members who would like to see this event happen? We could do the cross-country race on my trails and perhaps have a picnic at my pond or share food in my house, depending on the weather. Anyone interested? — Glenn Swan, 277-0495 FLCC VP, Mountain Biking |
