The Last Word Cross country skiing? Sunbathing? Snowshoeing? Cycling? This winter has given us a chance to do it all, but not enough of each. So, it’s back to the indoor trainer and thoughts of being on the roads full-time for cycling in the coming weeks. The FLCC’s annual business meeting will be held Sunday, February 28, at 4:00 pm (at Swan Cycles). Details are elsewhere in this newsletter. The two main functions to be performed at this meeting are (1) electing the 1999 officers and (2) planning races and rides for the coming year. A not-so-close reading of the list of nominees reveals that my name is missing after several years. It is time for new blood at the top of the club. I have enjoyed leading the FLCC for the last six years. Over the years it has become a much bigger club and, I hope, a better one in may ways. Most of the thanks for the club’s steady progress goes not to any individual but to the wonderful cast of officers who have helped the club during that time. As for me, I’m discovering the hard way that my time commitments away from Ithaca and the increasing demands of coaching cross-country and track and field are distracting me from FLCC activities and duties. I therefore appointed Steve Bowman and myself as the nominating committee for 1999. Together Steve and I will nominate Dave Ruppert to take over as FLCC president. Dave has his pedals in all of the clubs camps: touring, racing, and more; both as a participant and as an avid volunteer. He will be a fine president. I look forward to seeing all of you at the meeting. Our club has prospered because of the wonderful help from all of the officers and, especially, its members. It will continue to provide great riding for everyone if we work together to keep it the best. Thanks to you all for making the Finger Lakes Cycling Club the finest touring and racing club. —Dan Fravil, FLCC President |
