Jim Belknap’s Tag Team Battle Bowl is Saturday Feb. 21. This mountain bike race is always interesting because we never know what the weather might bring. It is a two-person relay race where riders can change off as often as they please, so one person rides while the other warms up inside, eats donuts, etc... It’s always been fun. Try it ! For info check the local bike shops. Swan Cycles has a pile of race info/entry forms if the others don’t. The Ithaca Snow Bowl Mountain Bike Race is another fun event on the following Saturday, Feb. 28 on the trails at Swan Cycles atop Mt. Pleasant. This event will be 1 hour long, with individuals instead of teams covering as many laps of a groomed course as they can. There will be plenty of food and maybe I’ll have the sauna fixed by then... The Monday Night Mountain Bike Rides are still going out from Swan Cycles at 5 PM each week. The last two weeks we have been on mountain bikes, though other weeks have seen us dish out the snowshoes, or even cross-country skis depending on the weather. C’mon out and join the fun. State TT Championships Here The FLCC is hosting the New York State Time Trial Championships on Saturday June 13. This is an opportunity for the club to show its stuff and put on an event that people will remember for quite some time. The course will be a very "Euro" time trial with ups and downs and turns requiring bike handling skills (unlike the typical American time trial). The course starts in Dryden, passes through the edge of Harford, through Slaterville and ends up atop Hammond Hill. Volunteer Please: We will need about 20 volunteers on race day and several others in the months before to get permissions and make arrangements. I especially need those who know Dryden and the key contacts for the use of the elementary school or the auction facility for our parking. The race will include all categories and we will encourage all types of riders, licensed or not, to test themselves on the course. To ensure your ability to ride on race day, plan to volunteer your services for race preparation. I expect those who have given their time and services to the event will pay a much lower entry fee than those who just show up to race. Bike Fit Clinic I am willing to do a free clinic on bike fit and set-up for FLCC club members, using trainers, video, and my tools at Swan Cycles. If we can get 5-8 people interested, then I will work out a time with you. Call me at the shop in the evenings. 277-0495 Fogies Are you an old fogie ? Are you a hammer pilot ? If so, then show your colors ! We will soon have a colorful and attractive OFRT jersey (Old Fogies Racing Team, sponsored by the mythical Hammer Pilot Motorworks) for sale through Swan Cycles, so that you will have something to wear when your FLCC club jersey is in the wash. Hammer shorts are in the works too, to put some meaning into the phrase, "putting the hammer down !" Keeping the fun in cycling ! Dress right this season ! |
