Hi everyone, This is my first posting to the flcc listserv (a.k.a. the Mike and Phil on-going soap opera..). Yes I did see Phil, Mike, and Dan (actually I saw three bicycles with figures in yellow rain gear - one of whom said "Hi Nick" whose voice I recognized as "el presidente") cruising along B-dale Rd. WITH the 25 mph wind. I had my 2 1/2 son Daniel with me - taking him to day care - going INTO the wind. Daniel weighs 39 pounds w/o clothes; I estimate with clothes and his diaper bag and accessories that he is close to a 50 pound load. Fortunately, I only have to ride 2 miles with him and the ride has no uphills. It was a fantastic fall for commuting; by October 30 I tallied 35 rides and only one drive to Ithaca College (where I spend much of my free time) for the fall semester. Since then it has been a struggle - about every other day has been a drive, for the last 5 weeks. Since various commitments have kept me away from the weekend rides since August, I appreciated the chance to get some mileage via commuting. On the year, I have around 5130 km - hoping to average 100 km a week by year's end. Hope everyone had a good year on their bike and are looking forward to some skiing. Nick Vandam |
