NYS Time Trials and Other Race Events

Tuesday-night rides (not races) continue until May. In the next few weeks we will introduce some small race sessions (yellow diamonds, etc.) into the rides. Then, sometime in the middle of May, we will begin the full-fledged races. Get ready!

Club time trials will start on the Coddington Rd. course on the first nice Thursday in May. Meet at the Codding-ton Rd. Community Center at 6:00 pm.

There was a soggy race in Bingham-ton on April 19, and another race scheduled for April 26. And don’t forget the club’s Hollenbeck Spring Classic on May 3 (see details on page one).

The State Championship Time Trial event is scheduled for Saturday, June 13. It is open to all riders, including citizens. It also serves as a qualifier for the Empire State Games (with the road race the following day on the Virgil course). The Speedsville Volunteer Fire Dept. has agreed to help us with the event, including providing a barbecue and some traffic control. I encourage club members to both ride and help stage the event. I’ll need help putting out flyers in advance to notify residents of what’s going on. We’ll have to make some road markings, and on race day we’ll need registration people, marshals, people to put up signs, and timers, starters, finish-line pickers, and more.

Please help out! To do this right, we’ll need a lot of involvement from the members of the club. If we do it together, it will be fun and satisfying. Registration will start at 9:00 am at the pavilion at the ball fields, 1.5 miles north of Speedsville, on County Road 33 (West Creek Rd). Juniors and Citizens will start around 11:00 and do a course that is about 12 miles. Seniors and Masters riders will start at noon and do a course that is about 18 to 20 miles (I am still negotiating for the last bit of road…).

We will have at least 20 categories of riders, so I will need to train some people in how to sort results and post them so that things are done quickly, accurately, and smoothly on race day. The system is pretty simple, but it’ll be better to know it before race day and perhaps practice at a club TT, so I could use a couple of volunteers soon to feel confident before the big day. Talk to me!
