Season Ending Tours

Sept 27—Taylor Valley. This is another new ride for the club, contributed by members who used to live in Cortland County. Meet at 9:30 am at the Friendly’s in the shopping center by the Route 13 interchange of Interstate 81. Call Andrejs if you want to arrange for a transportation to Cortland (272-0764). The ride will tarvel through some beautiful rolling valleys and then work across to  Marathon and back to Cortland  via Virgil. About 50 miles.

Oct 4 —Daisy Hollow. Meet at 9:00 am at the Marine Midland Bank, East Hill. We’ll go through Dryden to Daisy Hollow, then back over the ridge to Slater-ville Springs on the Harford Road. About 40 miles.

Oct 11—Honeypot. Meet at 9:00 am at the Marine Midland Bank, East Hill. This is by now the old chestnut of a ride via Old Seventy-six Road to Caroline Center, turn onto South Road, and then across the ridge to Candor. We’ll return by Wilseyville and White Church Road. About 40 miles.

Oct 18—Moravia. Meet at 9:00 am at the Marine Midland Bank, East Hill. The ride will go north past Lansing to Vanostrand Road, Creek Rd, NY 90, and NY 34 to Moravia. If there’s consensus, we’ll do some climbing to the ridge and return by NY 34. About 55 miles.

Oct 25—Yaple–White Church. Meet at 9:00 am at the Marine Midland Bank, East Hill. This ride goes east past Slaterville Springs on NY Route 79 to Level Green Road, then swings south over to Yaple and Old Seventy-six Road to Caroline Center and down to Valley Road. Those who want the full ride will take a left near Brooktondale onto White Church Road, follow that to Coddington, and then return to Ithaca via Middaugh, Brooktondale, NY 79, and Pine Tree Roads. Otherwise, riders can continue down Valley Rd through Brooktondale to NY 79 and Pine Tree Road for the return. About 37 miles.

No doubt this year of new route planning, new maps, and a new Commissar of Touring has had its problems, though I hope, of course, that most of the rides were to everyone’s liking. As the year winds down, I hope you will have some time to think about how our routes, schedule, riding, and anything else connected with Sunday tours could be improved. During the coming months I’m going to make maps that can be reused for a few years, so it’s important for me to get everyone’s feedback now. Also, I’d like to hear about any potential routes that have not been included in the last two years’ ride schedules. Once this last revision is done, we’ll have a packet of maps to send to all club members in time for the 1999 season. Along the way, the routes will also be made available on the worldwide web.
