by Dan Fravil

The annual FLCC meeting was held November 5 at Glenn Swan's after some pizza loading and lots of friendly gabbing. Dianne Hart from Moravia presented a plan for a rails-to-trails conversion near her and asked for our help in its implementation, specifically the cycling component. Andrejs, ever ready to help with a cycling cause, volunteered to attend a meeting and give further aid. Lois Chaplin, bike advocate from Cornell, had some good ideas.

Election of officers followed, with Phil Davis presenting a slate of officers from the nominating committee. Phil did a fine job in finding people who actually want to be officers and are full of ideas. The following were then elected without opposition: president: Dan Fravil; co-vice presidents for racing: Mike Dolenga and Peter Ozolins; vice president for touring: Phil Davis; treasurer: Bill Demo; coach: Glenn Swan; newsletter editor: Andrejs Ozolins; members-at-large: Sherrie Black, Robert Hill and Matt Clark; secretary: vacant. An amendment was then proposed and passed unanimously to add the position of vice president for mountain biking. Jerome Haines was elected to this new position. An amendment to add any team directors to the board of directors as ex-officio (non-voting) members was then passed. Much of the rest of the meeting was taken up with discussions of next year's riding. The Saturday morning fitness ride seems to have established itself and will continue. Phil Davis has some great ideas for Sunday rides and other tours with slower overall speeds and lots of different routes and leaders. He has also made contact with other clubs in the area and we should be doing some riding with them. Following suggestions of Robert Hill and Bill Demo, much talk of slower and "beginner" rides on Sunday ensued. Many of those present volunteered to lead a monthly ride aimed at attracting and retaining new riders.

The club will continue to sponsor the Greek Peak race the first Sunday in May and we will be looking to reinstitute the Cascalilla Hill Climb. Jerome Haines spoke about the reorganization at Cayuga Mountain Bike Shop. There will be no effect on the CMBS/FLCC team. Jerome will be the new team director.

Lastly, Andre Chaslin, a former racer in Europe in the '50s, and now owner of Cortland Saab was introduced. Andre is returning to cycling and is interested in promoting riding , possibly with a race in the Cortland area. It sounds great.

I think that the meeting was super. We have a great group of new officers, enthusiastic and committed. We are all looking forward to next year's riding.

REMINDER: For USCF licensed riders, when your license comes up for renewal, or if you are applying for your first license, you must list Finger Lakes Cycling Club as your club in order to race for the CMBS/FLCC team. The team will then automatically be listed on your license. You must do this to wear the CMBS/FLCC jersey in races. If you do not list FLCC as your club you can be disqualified for wearing the jersey and suspended. This is not currently true for NORBA licenses but is in the works.
