Speech from the Throne The old year 1996 passes and 1997 begins, and the FLCC had a successful year. At the annual club meeting on December 1 officers for 1997 were elected and plans were made for another year of cycling. Reports from the 1996 officers were all very favorable. The Sunday rides were generally attended by 16–24 riders; Tuesdays and Thursdays were, as always, very popular with our racers with up to 60 riders participating; Saturdays dimmed a bit but promise to be more well attended this year. In addition, the Greek Peak Race and the revived Cascadilla Hill Climb were a success. As the Treasurer’s report shows the club remains financially healthy. We broke even for the year with a larger newsletter, mailed touring maps and more rides. The club actually made money since we still are waiting for a check for $445.25 from STOP-DWI for the Cascadilla Hill Climb race. I want to thank all the people who made 1996 such a success for their efforts. Included are all the officers and volunteers who lead rides, organized clinics and helped with races. Thanks also to our friendly bike shops who give the FLCC discounts on merchandise and donated the prizes to our races. Thanks Swan Cycles, Cayuga Mountain Bike Shop and The Bike Rack. A special thank you to Joe Spadolini at Pedal Away for providing a support van for the rides around Seneca and Cayuga Lakes, and for laminating our membership cards. At the annual meeting we amended the constitution to add two more board members-at-large. This was to accomodate the extra people who want to help with club planning and activities. Thank you to them. It indicates a healthy club. We also raised the cost of our Associate Membership (members from other clubs) to $7.00 to cover the cost of mailing them our newsletter. Much discussion occurred concerning a new ride led by Tom Swensen for people more serious about their riding but not actually racing and we look forward to this addition. Some time was also spent talking about the club buying Computrainers. This seems to be a good idea and the profits from races in 1997 are earmarked for this. The coaching clinics for this winter were scheduled for the second Sundays of January, February and March at Swan Cycles. The schedule is to meet from 2–4 pm for play time, indoors or out, and clinic with 1997 Coach Tom Swensen from 4–5pm. Call for the topic of each clinic. The officers elected for 1997: |
