Cyclocross at Swan Cycles
As we note the earlier onset of darkness and the cooler evening and morning
temperatures, we have to acknowledge that the summer is nearing its end.
This means lots of things...
Cyclocross season is just around the corner. Jed Sheckler has agreed
to be more or less in charge of the Tuesday night cyclocross sessions
on my trails. They will begin after the final Tuesday night "Race for
the Pink Slipper". Jed is a former National Team member in Cyclocross,
with experience racing in Europe. You can learn a lot from him...
I have done some trail preparation for the Cyclocross rides, but there
is lots to do before the trails will be smooth enough to ride road bikes
easily on them. We need work crews to volunteer their time to tune the
trails up. Talk to me...
There will be no USCF cyclocross race on Mt. Pleasant this season. Hopefully
everyone will put their time and energies into helping make the Buck Hill
race happen. If Peter Ozolins plans to do his event at Cass Park, he'll
need volunteer help too.
The "Every Monday night" mountain bike rides will continue, and when
it begins to get dark during the rides, they will morph into "headlight
rides". We may need to put some white marks on trees to help us stay on
course on the new trails. Anyone up for some hiking with spray cans?
Thursday nights will continue to be "Night Club" at Connecticut Hill.
This is a club favorite. I like it too, even though I never get to join
it...because the trails these guys ride in the dark lead to much repair
business at the local shops and plenty of sales of powerful lighting systems...
