What is Cyclocross?
Cyclocross has European roots as an off season training race to
develop strength and agility for road cyclists. It is a mass start circuit
race of an hour plus one lap that can be held at a public park or school
yard. A typical course includes some pavement, grass, sand or gravel,
mud a usually a short steep hill. Often low barriers or hurdles are spaced
throughout the course to force riders to dismount and hop back on their
bikes.
Traditionally cyclocross is raced on modified road bikes with narrow
knobby tires. These days with the advent of mountain biking, a lot of
folks are racing on mountain bikes. In the last few years Cyclocross bikes
have become more available at local bike shops.
Cyclocross is great Fall and Winter fun for beginners and seasoned riders
and great training for triathletes as well. Come on out and race! For
