The
Club Mirror

Periodically there is some discussion of whether a mirror is a good or silly idea. Those of us who are too stiff of neck or wobbly of bike to turn around and look, however, have scoured the marketplace for something to make that rearward glance easier. In my experience and opinion, the best solution is a mirror like the one we're making available here. It's made by the legendary Chuck Harris who turns discarded bicycle spokes and scraps of mirrors into a remarkably durable and useful piece of safety equipment. Chuck has no website or email, so his fame spreads only by the testimony of his thousands of happy customers -- of which I'm one. Feel free to contact me if you want any further info. Our first order was for 25 mirrors, all of the helmet-mount variety. Harris also makes mirrors that attach to eyeglasses; however, in my view the helmet attachment is better because it doesn't have to be readjusted all the time and can remain perfectly aligned as long as you don't whack it really hard. If there were great demand, we could order some eyeglass-mounting mirrors as well.
At this time (April '08) we are sold out. Chuck Harris is getting on in years but, I'm told, is still producing them. But, demand is always very high and it takes a while to get mirrors. If a number of people contact me, I'll put together another order. Give me a call (607 592 0780) or email to register a request. Price: $15 each. |
