Halsey Valley, Waverly, SpencerThis ride is remarkably gentle for this area, since each of the main legs follows the general path of a watercourse. Route 96 in Spencer follows the Catatonk Creek. The Halsey Valley Rd follows the South Branch for a ways, then a new watershed continues the valley down to the Susquehanna, which is followed closely by Route 17C. To complete the circuit, Route 34 comes north along Cayuta Creek. At Dean Creek Road, about 7 miles north of Waverly, we turn right off the main valley to follow a loop through some lovely, moderate hills diagonally back toward Spencer. The ride starts in Spencer in the parking lot on Water St. just east of the creek. Turn left on to NY 96 when you pull out of Water St..
This puts us at the main intersection in Spencer. This loop fits very well into a longer ride of 85-90 miles, starting at East Hill. See the cue sheet and map for the route south to Spencer and another route back north along Crumtown Rd. |
