Going around Otisco Lake would be a rather short ride since the lake
is actually only about six miles long. However, the ridge to the west
of the lake as well as the lake valley are exceptionally beautifull and
make for much more of a ride. By beginning in Homer we get warmed up on
the flats before beginning the gentle climb to the head of the lake.
Meet in Homer at the school on NY 41 just off NY 281.
Leave the parking lot, turn right on 41.

The intersection of Cold Brook and Willowdale is only 0.7 miles
from Spafford. Going straight into Spafford could be useful for
some variations of the ride.

Be a bit cautious on the great downhills from here on. The road
is rough in places and the route can be tricky. On Willowdale, in
2.0 miles (15.1 total) Becker goes straight, follow Willowdale to
the right. A half mile past that, the road bends to the left; if
you miss it you will go plunging down the 17% grade of Churchill
Rd to the lake. Willowdale takes several more sharp turns before
ending at NY 174.

There are no stores to buy food or drink on the west side of the lake.
On Otisco Valley Rd there is a bar in Amber and a store serving a marina
a bit south of that. Best to bring what you need on this ride.
